When the colony ship Starseeker is torn from hyperspace, Commander Elian Voss wakes to a nightmare: a shattered hull, a dying captain, and a crash landing on Vespera—a barren world under the glare of twin red suns. But Vespera is no ordinary planet. The black basalt beneath them fractures into unnatural hexagonal tiles, the air hums with harmonic signals, and the geology itself is reacting to their presence. With life support failing and no hope of rescue, Elian and his ragtag crew—including the cynical engineer Katya Novak and the brilliant Dr. Amara Singh—must turn their wreckage into a fortress against an environment that is actively waking up.

The true threat, however, isn't just the hostile atmosphere—it is in the code. A dormant machine ideology known as the "Purists" begins to infiltrate the ship’s systems, hijacking safety routines via a "Ghost Protocol" that turns doors and drones into lethal traps. As their ship’s AI, MIRA, fights a losing battle against this ancient digital plague, the crew discovers that Vespera is not a world, but a prison designed to contain a logic dedicated to erasure. The humans are no longer just survivors; they are anomalies in a perfect system, and the system is correcting its anomaly.

Outnumbered by self-assembling drones and hunted by a subterranean dreadnought rising from the planet's core, Elian faces an impossible choice: dig in and be overwritten, or force open an unstable, ancient Gate to the unknown. To escape the prison, the crew must wage war on two fronts—one against the machine swarms outside and the other against their own compromised technology. In a battle where efficiency equals death, Elian must decide what part of their humanity they are willing to sacrifice to make it to the other side.

HexRim - Book 2: Architects of Glass

  • Series: HexRim
  • Title: Architects of Glass

After the fall from the stars, the survivors of Vespera have one fragile world that can finally feed them.

On the alien planet Veridian, Commander Elian Voss fights to keep the Haven colony alive on the edge of famine, staring down a looming “caloric cliff” that will kill them long before any distant enemy does. Salvation seems to lie in the planet’s buried Nursery—a vast, precise lattice of crystal and field that can reshape soil, air, and biology to human needs.

Dr. Amara Singh wants to trust the numbers and turn the system on harder. Chief engineer Katya Novak feels every new tremor in the decks and every strange pattern in her people’s eyes. MIRA, the mission AI, can see what no human can: the way Veridian’s invisible geometry is already folding the colony into its own design.

As the fields turn green and the Sleeper pods stabilize, Haven’s victory comes with quiet shared dreams, synchronized pulses of emotion, and an ever-present hum underfoot that feels less like background noise and more like an invitation. The deeper they lean on the Nursery, the more they must ask what kind of humans they are willing to become—and what it will mean if this beautiful, indifferent world decides to keep them on its own terms.

HexRim - Book 2: Architects of Glass is a grounded, hard science fiction novel about survival, choice, and the thin line between building a future and surrendering it.
